Isabelle Chambefort
General Manager Mission – Energy
Isabelle is a science strategist and energy leader driving innovation in next-generation energy solutions. Her interest is in advancing multidisciplinary research to: accelerate the global energy transition, answer New Zealand energy challenges, and strengthen environmental resilience. With over 20 years of expertise in geothermal systems, magmatic-hydrothermal ore deposits, and petrology, Isabelle is a globally recognised hydrothermal geoscientist.
Graham Leonard
General Manager Mission - Geological Hazards
Graham has 25 years’ experience in Earth process and hazard research, including the development and leadership of major research programmes. He is passionate about improving community resilience through risk reduction and effective warnings. His research focused on volcanic mapping, geology, stratigraphy and geochronology. He has worked extensively throughout the Asia-Pacific region and in North and South America. His work has contributed to the development of effective responses to warning systems and mitigation of the impacts of disasters.
Richard Levy
General Manager Mission - Atmosphere and Climate
Richard has led major climate research projects in Antarctica and New Zealand that aim to predict the magnitude and impacts of sea level rise on New Zealand communities. Richard is a glacial stratigrapher and palaeoclimatologist whose work to understand climate change is widely respected in New Zealand and globally. He spent 15-years in the United States where he was engaged in Antarctic research. Richard has worked extensively with Māori, iwi, hapu, and whanau on a range of climate-related programmes.

Andrew Tait
General Manager Mission - Weather and Climate Hazards
Andrew specialised in weather and climate science and has studied and worked in this field for over 35 years. His interests are in multi-hazard modelling, impact-based extreme weather forecasting and warnings, sub-seasonal to seasonal climate forecasts, weather and climate hazard and risk assessment, disaster recovery and climate change adaptation. Andrew studied climatology at the University of Otago and undertook a PhD at the University of Colorado, USA studying the utility of satellite data for snow studies.
Mike Williams
General Manager Mission - Oceans and Fisheries
Mike is a science leader with a career at the interface of oceans, climate change, and technology. He is a passionate about using science to enable and support decision making. He has a strong interest in taking our science to the Pacific and beyond. Mike trained as a physical oceanographer and ocean modeller and has applied his expertise to ocean circulation, Antarctica’s ice shelves and sea ice, climate projections, ocean acidification, climate adaption, tsunamis, and how to win the America’s Cup.

Richard Williams
General Manager Mission - Land and Water
Richard is passionate about leading impactful science that enables sustainable development and use of our planet’s land and water environments. He has developed science strategy and led large, international, multi-disciplinary projects. Richard has led research that has evaluated river restoration, used big data to quantify river morphodynamics, assessed the impact of mining on water quality, and simulated natural flood management approaches in river, estuarine and coastal settings. Until June 2025, Richard was Professor of River Science and Director of Research at the School of Geographical and Earth Systems at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
